Tool Album Review

Tool has recently release their new album, 10,000 Days, not to be confused with Disturbed’s 10,000 Fists. The first song on the album is called “Vicarious”, and if you visited Tool’s website anytime when the album first came out, this intro was playing. The “I need to watch things die” is probably the most catchy part of the entire song, but I would listen to the whole song anytime. The next song is “Jambi”, a single. The beginning verse is just magical, along with the guitar riff that plays throughout the song. My favorite part is the “Damn my eyes” in the bridge, along with the part right after that, which includes the guitar solo. The next two songs are probably my favorite of the album, partially because of the meaning behind them.

Number three is “Wings For Marie (Part 1),” while number four is the self-titled “10,000 Days (Wings Part 2)”. The first talks about how Jesus (Christ) descended into hell, along with his crucifixion and death. The effect of both these songs is amazing, especially when listening to them through head-phones really loud. The “10,000 Days” in the next refers to the 10,000 days that Christ spent in hell, then rose from it and ascended unto Heaven. It also talks about his divinity among mortals and the familiarity with his father. The song also contains tracks from a storm, rain and thunder, which gives it an even more “crown” feeling effect. I was quite surprised by Tool’s Christian influence, but also found it in their song “Eulogy,” which is in fact, a eulogy for Jesus. It’s really neat if you listened to the song before, then realized it later. It just makes things fit together.

The next song is their most popular single, “The Pot.” This song is about, oddly enough, pot. I think the whole thing was meant to be ironic in a way. I thought it was pretty funny. The beginning of the song is the best, because if you turn up the volume, you can hear the reverse echo of the intro. The melody to the intro is great. Number six is called “Lipan Conjuring,” and is just a tribal chant. Honestly I usually skip it, unless I’m in the need of a relaxing, say nothing song. The next, “Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann),” is basically an interlude, but towards the end it sounds like a hospital with an unknown patient who doesn’t know where he is or something. “Rosetta Stoned” has either really fast lyrics, or actual gibberish spoken, and continues to be an interlude. “Intension” seems like a continuation of the last two [those three sort of blend together].

The last actual song on the album is “Right In Two,” another awesome song. It talks about how [again the Christian theme] God gave humans free will, and the humans misuse it, by comparing us to monkeys. I found this funny since most Christians believe in Creation, which usually doesn’t support evolution. My favorite part is “Angels on the sidelines,” where it has that sort of disappointed feeling attached to it. The last song, “Viginti Tres,” [which is 23 in Latin], is just nosies. Very cool nosies at that. Apparently there are lyrics to be found in it, which is also Latin? I’m not sure. That reminds me of the number 23, which I’m coming to believe that it is evil… But I shall save that for another post. These summaries and interpretations are mine, and can be wrong, with which I am perfectly comfortable. If you have your own opinion, please share.

Ice Ice…

New theme for wordpress! I call it Ice. Pretty beautiful if I say so myself. I just put it on, so it might have a few little errors and stuff. If you see any, let me know somehow. I haven’t done the comments yet (at 8:57pm on 27 Feb), but that will hopefully be easy… Let me know how you like it.

Watch Out!

So I’ve been busy lately, and unable to write a decent post on aslamp. But fear not! I have quite a few on the way. These include my theory on Energy and Mass, and converting between them, my feelings towards giving away your human rights in contracts and such, and a few other america-related topics. Not to mention yet another revamping of aslamp, the theme that is. I’m calling it Ice. It shall be very cool. Kind of simplistic and inspired by Blackheart6004’s Osmium. Very cool picture, the hue of the style is a little bit of, but it has the same idea. So watch out for updates within the next few days! I’ve also been thinking about getting more ads on here [cause I need money]. One place in particular is Dclick. They have a Buyer/Seller thing, where ad places bid on your site. It would definitely bring more people to aslamp, which it needs, along with money to me =]. I just have to find a place where I could stick the banner or text ads…

Cellular Dilemma

Why is it that my cell phone works everywhere except my house. At the places where I venture the most often, besides home, guitar center, school, church, I get six bars (even though I thought I only had five). But while relaxing in my chair at home, I receive two. It’s ridiculous. Most of my friends’ networks (non-sprint) work everywhere in my house, including the basement. Among the different networks, is Cingular. I’m not really sure what plans they have, which I should research more… But I know wirefly.com has some combo deal things. Which I am interested in, because I want a phone that has hackable firmware. Not publicly hackable, personally. As in, I could modify the software on it. Which would be very fun. I believe the Razor is, or so a friend tells (and shows) me. I’ll do a review if I happen to buy anything soon...

Screw it

I decided to change the name back to aslamp. It just plain and simple. Expect a new layout soon. It will be simple and cool.

Dagorhir

Dagorhir is a realistic medieval fighting program. It enlists people of all ages and [all?] genders to compete against each other with foam weapons and authentic garb (clothing from that era), using fast reflexes and some fencing techniques when hacking at each other’s limbs. The basic rules are that you aren’t really trying to hurt the person, just tap their limbs, causing them to “fall off” and become unusable, or their torso, which would be considered a dead hit. All rules for Dagorhir are available at Dagorhir.com. Overall it’s a really fun hobby/life/passion, whatever you want it to be.

Blizzard ‘07

As NBC33 and 21Alive are reporting, Northeastern Indiana and Northwestern Ohio are in a level 2 blizzard warning state. That means… No school! Or work for that matter. Even my [our] college class is canceled for Wednesday. And considering that most students are on campus (Indiana Tech), that’s pretty shocking. Unfortunately, I am sick from Brooke… and sore from Dagorhir on Sunday. Dagorhir is a mid evil reenactment fighting which is really cool. I should be on lampPost a lot on Wednesday, updating the style and such things. Also working on my vision paper, and playing my guitar. No fun outside the house…
