update:
stained it. i like everything but the color on the maple. i think i'm gonna sand it down and try again.. with something much more redder. reeeeed. (my camera sucks. i apologize. i need a new one)

I stuck everything in it, and hooked up the bridge pickup directly to the output. it sounds really nice. frets are a little choppy in some places, but i'm pretty happy with it (besides the top color) for only spending $150 + stain n stuff.

I sanded the dark brown down (along with everything else) so that it was only on the stripes, then used some red food coloring to put a red finish on it. followed by wax (shoe polish).
I also hooked up all the electronics. it sounds pretty good. two spots on the fretboard are a little low, causing a bit of buzz in two areas. going to fix that sometime.
